so the jokes spread like wild-fire last friday surrounding rebecca black, friday and friday the 13th (also known as black friday) - you do the math. every friday the 13th i get super-excited just reminiscing of all the (primarily spooky) times with my crazy beautiful friend sharlit. at the age of 10 we were fixated on the friday the 13th series (ALL of them) - yes, i too wonder wtf we were up to.
anyway, impromptu and spontaneous actions led me to channel my inner courtney love and rock the kinderwhore look for a (very under-costumed) 90s party. it came to my attention that it is a feat to be recognised as courtney love, i must say. had to take her to extremes - perhaps almost taking the piss a bit? DG would love me for that.
the courtney look; she wore a tiara on numerous occasions. so to all y'all who thought i was a crazy mofo wearing a tiara as c-love, booyah!
"crash and burn" the courtney coma? (faux - so chill).
but the best thing about embodying ms love was living the fantasy of being married to this incredible human; kurt cobain.
i tried to think of a link between the two; friday 13th and courtney love, but i drew a blank. therefore i can't decide who would be tickled; c-love, dave or jason voorhees. i'mma say JASON would be tickled ... but regardless (or maybe even more so) next friday 13th, watch your back.
the Great Depression of (predominently) the 1930s saw the phenomenon known as 'the lipstick effect'. while there were decreased sales in virtually everything, the sales of lipstick (and other cosmetics) increased. "what we saw was a consumer trying to make themselves feel better through small, indulgent, hedonic consumption". seem familiar? although superficial it is a fact and one that has embedded its way through to today's recession.
"i wanna se your peacock, cock, cock. your peacock, cock". i was over-the-moon to find that mac FINALLY released a blue lippy (limited edition 'peacocky'). bliss. re-applying after the Katy Perry concert on sunday night - how fitting.
a few lipstick adventures so far in 2011 - lipstick used to appear to me as such an 'old' and mature possession; unbeknownst to me it would become my best-friend.
like many things, there is no more mac in chch. however, the nice people at Kirkaldie & Stains sent me my Lady Gaga Viva Glam II lipstick and gloss free postage. aww, they must understand 'the lipstick effect'. bless.
[insert childhood lipstick incident photo here] - just you wait.
as a semi-extremist (contradiction) i am a fan of nude or dramatic lips. check out mac's - snob, cyber, peacocky, saint germain, media, crem d'nude, myth ... just a little pick me up (one you are sure to get compliments on). go. treat yourself. swak. lil' mama would be tickled.
in keeping with the high-school teenager theme/nostalgia my lust is focussed to varisty or letterman jackets. i have ALWAYS loved these jackets and now they, along other school-like trends, are readily available, JOY!
many a time seen in the movie varsity blues. with the song 'my hero' wahoo.
in retrospect i will see the hilarity in this and reminisce of a time when i had youth and embraced it (as i always do). but the thing is, i am not embracing it. well, i don't feel like i am. perhaps it is because i have a terrible memory. but i know that i will probably look back at this and laugh, yet i am seriously worried/horrified/in mourning about turning the big fat huge old ugly serious 2-0. i sincerely thought it was bad enough turning nineteen, but twenty, that is incomprehendible. yuck, it makes me want to vom. YES, this is dramatic but i swear it is/will be the only thing that is causing me emotional unrest - age. whoah, quarter-life crisis much? definitely my "19th nervous breakdown" to quote ol' Mick and Keith. ha.
from the time of drafting this i have exactly four months of exuding the auora and perfume of teen spirit. what does this even smell like?
all of the songs about fun and youth and rebellion are all depicted in the teenage years. moreover all of the BEST songs are just these ... ponder these. - seventeen forever - dancing queen - sweet sixteen - she's only 18 (i played this up until the second i turned nineteen) - time of my life (baby is 17) - smells like teen spirit - 1985 - teenage wasteland - school's out (although i have already adjusted to the absence of school-themed songs/movies/TV) - teenage dirtbag - fifteen - summer of '69 - breakout - forever young - teenage dream (wahoo) - 100 years - special needs - hot in herre - high school never ends - teenagers (can no longer play this to vent) - what's my age again? - all summer long ... to name a few.
what does this even entail - apart from a killer birthday shindig? "do i carry my high-school diploma around with me? what do you do with your hair in the morning? what happens if their is incliment weather, where do you, what do you wear? can you wash you clothes in the dishwasher?"
maybe i should write a list of my teenage achievments so far and what i still want to do slash can get away with do within the next couple of months. oh,thepossibilities ... hmm. sorry for the whinge, i swear it is/will be my only one. the glass is half FULL. age is just a number, right? que sera sera.
there is someone however that embodies teenage feelings above 20, showing that age really is just a number. how perfect, considering my upcoming weekend plans ... katy perry would be tickled.
PS - if anyone has any reassuring statements to either side of this dilemma please feel free to comment and help a girl (still) out.
i live in excess. not in the sense that i have everything or could even afford it for that matter being a poor student and all (bless studylink), but in the sense that there are a lot of material things i can't live without. so, i should really say i live with excess. therefore, i need a handy dandy super smokin' handbag. here is my kryptonite.
the piano bag - the bag that got me through the summer (above)(particularly Rhythm & Vines Festival) from Recycle Boutique seen in the Dolche & Gabbana Fall 2011 Collection. quirky and divine. musician/rockstar edge (debatable as to which) to handbags check this.
the envelope clutch - my sister's wedding bag. i won't hear any of this royal wedding nonsense ... we had our very own. normally clutches are the biggest mission, but the old envelope clutch hasn't failed me yet. VB is a fan too. score.
the studded (bottom) bag - twas my big throw-everything-in-it bag of 2010. black leather look and silver studs, what more could i want? whilst i still love it ... i am (as always) on the hunt for a new one. it was an Alexander Wang 2009 Fall Collection look, so i'm sure you have seen it before.
potential bags of 2011??? i'll get back to you.
i came to this conclusion upon looking at my friends miniture handbag (if you could call it that, if it is even worthy of that title) and pondering how she fits her life in it. my dear friend, bridget would be tickled. x.
night-time driving is so mind cleansing. the atmosphere allows for the best thinking, realisations and in fact epiphanies. i realised how vividly central these lyrics (among others) are to my ideas, images and thoughts on life right now ...
